merging traditional arts & crafts with technology
The Innovate Centre for Arts, Crafts and Technology merges traditional arts and crafts with new modern technologies and production techniques to create economic opportunities for artists and other creative individuals in the Western Arctic.
From first conversations back in September 2017 until the June 13th, 2019 announcement of generous funding from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) the centre has had the support of many organizations. Partners working to realize this initiative include the Inuvialuit Regional Corporation, the Gwich'in Tribal Council, the Government of Northwest Territories Departments of Industry, Tourism, and Investment and Education, Culture, and Employment, Aurora College and the Aurora Research Institute.
The result is a space where northern artisans can acquire new skills, use new technologies, and grow their small businesses.
